There are several ancient forts in the Pathankot district which are well worth visiting. The Nurpur (Dhameri) Fort was built in the 11th century and soon became one of the strongholds of the Clan. Built by the Pathania Rajputs, this fort suffered severe damage due to a huge earthquake in 1905 AD. The fort and the temple inside, attracts tourists from all across the world.

If you like adventure as well as history, you are sure to enjoy looking around the ancient caves of Punjab, situated on the banks of the River Ravi. It is one of the most sacred places in Pathankot Punjab because the caves are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Legend has it that the Pandavas stayed there for one night during their exile. The caves are in fact temples and each year, a celebration - known as the Mukesran Mandir - takes place where hundreds of people come to worship.

The Shahpurkandi Fort was constructed in the 16th century and is situated at the foot of the Himalayas. It has a stunning view of the river Ravi and was strategically located by the Rajput chief, Jaspal Singhto, so he could have control over the Kangra and Nurpur region.
